Knocked Up, the latest R-rated comedy from writer-director Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin), has the expected raunch factor, but it’s also a surprisingly honest exploration of the emotions a twentysomething couple goes through in dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. For Angelenos, there’s an added layer of authenticity, as the movie filmed at real locations all over Los Angeles, from Cafe Pinot and The Pantry in Downtown to Apostrophe Books in Pasadena. Here are some of the other locales sure to be familiar to the Hollywood crowd.

Ben and Pete browse the wide selection of used records, CDs and movies at RECORD SURPLUS, a treasure trove on Pico Boulevard in West L.A. that has been around for over 20 years.

Ben bonds with Pete (Paul Rudd), the husband of Alison’s sister Debbie (Leslie Mann), over their fears of fatherhood when the four go out to dinner at STERLING STEAKHOUSE in Hollywood, which, alas, has since closed (as did its short-lived reincarnation as Sideways Lounge).

Having decided to tell him she’s pregnant, Alison meets up with Ben for dinner at GEISHA HOUSE, the uber-trendy, two-level Japanese restaurant/lounge on Hollywood Boulevard whose celebrity investors include Ashton Kutcher and Wilmer Valderrama.

The morning after their drunken hookup, Alison and Ben have an awkward cup of coffee at SWINGERS, a retro diner near the beach in Santa Monica that’s popular with both families and the stayed-up-partying-all-night crowd.

Alison (Katherine Heigl) and Ben (Seth Rogen) first meet at Hollywood Boulevard hot spot MOOD, a Bali-themed nightclub with an always-packed dancefloor and celeb regulars like Paris Hilton, Johnny Knoxville and Lindsay Lohan.

Alison and Ben go shopping for baby clothes at JACADI in Pasadena. The chic, French-based childrenswear retailer, which has over 400 locations worldwide, has been expanding to the U.S., with over two dozen boutiques currently open across the country.

“…Alison and Ben have an awkward cup of coffee at SWINGERS, a retro diner near the beach in Santa Monica…”
No, Swingers isn’t near the beach in Santa Monica, it’s in like beverly hills-ish area, right on Beverly. Hmm.

Actually, both the article and madmardigan are right: There are two locations, but the one used in the movie is the Santa Monica location.
