Oscar De La Renta Vs. Elizabeth Arden
July 2, 2008 @ 2:40 pm
Here we go with another fashion and beauty industry lawsuit.
In one corner we have Oscar de la Renta Ltd. and in the other corner, we have Elizabeth Arden Inc., the latter of which was sued on June 27 by the former for supposed trademark infringement.
Oscar de la Renta is huffing and puffing over the packaging of Elizabeth Arden’s 4-ml. fragrance samples at Wal-Mart, which they claim is too close for comfort on a trademark.
Elizabeth Arden hit back with a statement that claimed that Oscar de la Renta scents, “have been sold for many years directly to Elizabeth Arden for resale to mass retailers in the United States by YSL Beauté Inc., Oscar de la Renta’s fragrance licensee and registered owner of the trademarks at issue.”
Better get CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg on this ASAP — she’s been all about the copyright and trademark infringement since her nomination, much to the delight of designers and to the chagrin of Forever 21.
