Yurman Scent-sibility

David and Sybil Yurman want to be emanating off the necks of women everywhere, not just hanging off them.
The Yurmans — who established their jewelry house in 1980 and have been going on strong ever since — recently joined forces with the Clarins Group to found Yurman Perfumery, which will be launching its first fragrance this August. This women’s scent, a floral chypre, is a delicious masculine and feminine blend of mandarin, green petals, cassis, patchouli, exotic woods and soft musk.
“Jewelry and scents are both about design. With jewelry, you create art with the colors of the gemstones,” says Sybil Yurman. “With fragrance, you do it with the notes.”
David Lipman, Yurman’s creative director, is designing the gold-toned, pressed Italian crystal shell bottle with a sculpted gold cap reminiscent of David Yurman’s wedding band. Amber Valletta, a regular model for the jewelry house, will be in national ads for the new fragrance, which will continue to be shot be another Yurman regular, Peter Lindbergh.
